SMART English Teaching Program

SMART English Teaching Program 

The SMART English Teaching Program was developed by Özel Ege teachers and curriculum specialists to support English language development from preschool through middle school. The program is designed around student-centered themes and integrates English with Mathematics, Science, Music, and Visual Arts through a multidisciplinary approach. 

The program aims to accurately assess language skills using both process-oriented and product-oriented evaluation methods. SMART enhances language acquisition while enabling students to transfer learning to real-life contexts through active use of technology. 

 

SMART in Preschool 

Program content and activities are designed in line with the developmental characteristics of preschool learners, using elements of mathematics, science, and the arts. SMART aims to measure language skills accurately while combining process- and product-based evaluation.   

English teachers accompany classroom and branch teachers during visual arts, music, and even morning routines, ensuring that students encounter English naturally throughout the school day. 

 

SMART in Primary School 

By the end of Grade 4, students are expected to reach A1+/A2 proficiency levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students use English actively and enjoyably through events such as Quiz Show and Spelling Bee.   

Students consistently perform above the national average on Cambridge Young Learners Exams and TOEFL Primary.   

Through eTwinning projects, primary school students use English while learning about different cultures and global issues. 

 

SMART in Middle School 

In Grade 5, SMART functions as a preparatory year integrated with Mathematics, Coding, and Science. Students are placed into Start Up, Open Road, or Turning Point proficiency groups. 

Grades 6 and 7 participate in global awareness and international projects, including: 

  • Junior Model United Nations (JMUN)   
  • Yale Model Government Europe (YMGE)   
  • eTwinning   
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)   
  • World Scholar’s Cup   

Debate Tournaments strengthen critical thinking, public speaking, research, and collaborative skills.   

By the end of Grade 8, students are expected to reach B1+/B2 proficiency levels. 

Middle school students take internationally recognized exams such as: 

  • Cambridge Flyers – KET – PET – FCE   
  • TOEFL Junior   

Grade 8 students also take Pre-AP courses as preparation for AP classes in high school, earning internationally valid certificates.
