Branch Courses & Core Activities
In our primary school curriculum, alongside core subjects, various workshop courses are included to help our students develop their abilities in different fields and explore their interests. In addition to being part of the weekly course schedule, these are further enriched with primary school club activities. The core activities included in our primary school program are as follows:
Woodworking and Design Workshop
Through the woodworking and design workshop course, we aim to ensure our students gain qualities that support the production process rather than merely being consumers. While contributing to the development of their affective and psycho-motor skills, self-esteem, self-identity, communication, and language skills, we also target the development of real-life skills, fundamental sciences, and innovative thinking capabilities. In the Science and Technology Base (BİTÜ) woodworking workshop classroom, our students experience the joy of producing by utilizing problem-solving, critical thinking, productivity, teamwork, and multi-literacy skills required by the new era.
Mind Games
We strive to equip our students with competencies parallel to the developments of today's information age. In our mind games classroom, we learn to evaluate a problem from multiple perspectives. This enables us to progress from simple to complex concepts and foresee the outcomes of our moves.
Science Workshop
We foster mental skills such as research, creativity, and problem-solving starting from primary school, introducing our students to the fun side of science. We carry out our activities—supported by our Science Board—in the Science and Technology Base (BİTÜ) science laboratory. Aiming for our students to become proficient science-literate individuals, we conduct activities through the science workshop course so that they become curious, inquiring, applying, and producing children capable of transferring their knowledge into real life.
Coding
The coding course aims to develop algorithmic thinking, computational thinking, critical thinking, and design-thinking skills so that our students become competent individuals in the digital world. Aspiring for our students to be "producers, not just consumers" of technology, they acquire an innovative perspective while also enhancing their personal and social skills. Towards this goal, throughout the year, our students carry out project-based activities under the guidance of their teachers in the Science and Technology Base (BİTÜ) computer laboratory using content-rich instructional materials. The leader candidates of the future design their first dreams for initiatives and inventions that will make a difference in the international arena at Özel Ege Primary School.
Chess
The chess course aims to develop cognitive skills such as creativity, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving in our students. Through the lessons held in our chess classroom, positive developments are observed in both the academic and social achievements of our students.
"Author Interviews"
Reading habits are among the most essential fundamental habits that can be instilled in children during their primary school years. To support this attainment, through the "Author Interview" practice in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades of primary school, our children meet with the authors of the books they read. Through interviews organized separately for each grade level, students share their questions about the books with the authors, have their books signed, and get acquainted with the literary world from an early age.
Artistic Activities
Other activities organized for primary school students are in the fields of theater and art. At least once every semester, our students have the opportunity to watch artistic performances such as Turkish and English theater, opera, puppet theater, and classical music concerts at the Yüksel Eraslan Cultural Center—located on our campus and recognized as one of İzmir's most comprehensive halls. Additionally, they take art, music, chess, and ceramics classes in the workshops within our cultural center. Students also have the opportunity to showcase the products created during these classes in exhibition areas.
In performance-based events organized throughout the year, students get the chance to showcase their artistic feelings and talents on stage. Presentations of events such as "My Instrument and Me," "Choral Festival," "Turkish Theater," "English Theater," "German Theater," and "French Theater" are also held on the same stage.
Reading Literary Works
Starting in the 4th grade, students read one Turkish and one English literary work per semester under this program. Students introduce the books they read in accordance with standardized forms prepared separately for Turkish and English works. Each student presents their book orally to their class.
Annual Project
At Özel Ege, the annual project application begins in the 4th grade. The annual project involves groups of students engaging in teamwork on a specific topic. Projects are prepared in writing by the students and presented orally to the teacher and classmates. Selected projects are featured in the annually published "Özel Ege Schools Project Book." Through this application, our goal is for students taking their first steps into the world of science and invention to carry this excitement with them throughout their lives. In subsequent grades, scientific project efforts are supported by our school's Science Board. Every graduating student gains an affinity and aptitude for positive and social sciences.
Starting from the 4th grade, the "Inter-Class Science Project Competition" is organized to involve our students in project activities. In this competition, where highly original projects are exhibited each year, awards are given in areas such as environment, energy, creativity, technology, and design. The projects are evaluated by a jury consisting of academicians and our science teachers.
4th-grade students also participate in the Science Festival, traditionally organized at Özel Ege Schools. Science is considered one of the most vital elements of education at our school, allowing our students to acquire scientific thinking skills at an early age.
Sports and "Sports Schools" in Primary School
We aim for our students to make sports a habit from an early age and maintain it as a lifestyle.
At Özel Ege, outdoor and indoor sports facilities, centered around the sports complex, along with a semi-olympic swimming pool, are actively used by our students. Our students have the opportunity to get introduced to and practice numerous sports branches, primarily basketball, volleyball, swimming, athletics, table tennis, tennis, gymnastics, orienteering, cycling, sports climbing, pentathlon, and triathlon.
We evaluate each student according to their individual abilities and characteristics to form our school teams. With an average of 34 school teams and 380 licensed student-athletes each year, we represent our school in girls' and boys' categories across the mini, junior, star, and youth divisions at district, provincial, and national championships in Türkiye. In the inter-school competitions we participate in, we meticulously observe and value our student-athletes' positive attitudes and behaviors both on and off the field just as much as winning the match.
Within the academic period, our students participate in inter-class sports competitions during weekdays and are included in training programs for athletics, basketball, volleyball, swimming, and table tennis after school. Additionally, on Saturdays, we contribute to our students' development through the "Özel Ege Schools Sports School" programs.
